Common questions about outdoor toys

Frame pools

Placing the pool
What is the best kind of surface for my EXIT frame pool?

You can place EXIT Toys frame pools on a flat and stable surface like grass or a hardened type of ground. Make sure you clean the surface thoroughly and remove sharp objects before placing the pool on it. In addition to that we also advise using a ground cover.

Can I place my EXIT pool on a sloping surface?

No, we recommend placing the pool on a straight surface. This will ensure the water level will be the same throughout the whole pool and that there won’t be any unnecessary pressure on one side. Are you in doubt as to whether the pool is in the right place? When filling the pool immediately check if the water tilts to one side, if so, we recommend finding another place for the pool.

(Dis)assembling the pool
The corners of my EXIT pool seem to be loose. Is this correct?

Yes, this is correct. In the rectangular pools sized 400 x 200 x 100 cm, 400 x 200 x 122 cm, 540 x 250 x 100 cm and 540 x 250 x 122 cm the corner pieces have a smaller diameter than the tubes in which they are placed. This extra space is necessary because of the pressure the water puts on the liner. By slack in the frame, the water can properly distribute and prevent the liner from tearing.

The long sides of my EXIT pool curve inwards, is this normal?

Yes, a rectangular EXIT frame pool always bends a few centimetres inwards. With larger pools of 100 or 122 cm in height the pool can bend inwards by about 30 to 40 cm during the filling. Don’t worry, this will correct itself as soon as the pool fills up. Is the pool still bending inwards after the filling? Then there is too little water in the pool and the frame and liner get too little counter pressure. Refill the pool.

Does your EXIT pool have a strong inward curve but less than 100 cm? Then check whether the long tubes are connected to the long sides of the pool and the short tubes to the short sides. Good to know: there is only a small visible difference between these tubes. Check the different lengths in the manual.

Can I leave my EXIT pool outside throughout the whole year?

No, our EXIT frame pools are only suitable for the warmer seasons of the year, so not for autumn or winter. In our blog you can read all about how to make your pool winter proof.

How can I disassemble my EXIT frame pool and store it away?

In the blog ‘How do I get my frame pool ready for winter?’ you can read all about disassembling and storing away your EXIT frame pool.

Can the filter pump be used to empty the frame pool?

If you have a sand filter pump, you can use it for emptying the pool. With the other EXIT filter pumps this is not possible.

Filling the pool
How many litres of water go into my EXIT pool?

We recommend filling an EXIT pool to a maximum of 90% with water. Below you can see how many litres of water our pools contain:

244x76cm - 2780 litres 220x150x65cm - 1800 litres
300x76cm -  4383 litres 300x200x65cm - 3700 litres
360x76cm -  6125 litres 400x200x100cm - 7020 litres
360x122cm - 10126 litres 540x250x100cm - 12600 litres
427x122cm - 14758 litres 400x200x122cm - 8870 litres
450x122cm - 15233 litres 540x250x122cm - 13465 litres
488x122cm - 19330 litres
What do I need to consider when filling up my EXIT frame pool?

When you fill up the pool it is important to fill it up at least to the level of the lowest hole of the filter pump connector and until it is covered with a generous layer of water. The upper hole (where the clean water flows back out into the pool) may stay above the water. Please note: the frame of the 100 – 122 cm high frame pools can have the tendency to draw to the inside at the beginning. This will be resolved automatically once the pool is filled up to a sufficient level.

I don't want to or can't fill my pool to 90 per cent, is this okay?

Yes you can, as long as you make sure that the inlet and outlet valves are under water. In large rectangular pools the top rail (the upper frame tubes) will bend in that case.

Can I walk off when filling up the frame pool?

As soon as you start filling up the pool with water, it would be wise to check it regularly to see if everything is still going as it should. That’s why we advise you not to leave the house and to avoid leaving the pool unattended for a longer period of time. Especially at the beginning it is important to see if the pool is being filled up evenly, that there are no more creases left at the bottom, that the frame and the legs remain sturdy in place.

Maintaining the pool
Do I need to put chlorine in my pool water?

To keep the frame pool water clean, therefore also the pool itself, we do advise to add chlorine to the water. Chlorine disinfects the water and keeps it free of bacteria and mould.

Be sure that you don't add the chlorine tablets directly into the water, but that you use a floating chlorine dispenser. The EXIT chlorine dispenser ensures that the chlorine disperses evenly throughout the pool water. Using the adjustable knob, you can determine how many chlorine tables you release in a given period.

Be careful not to add too much or too little chlorine to the water. Using the EXIT test strips, you can measure the chlorine content and the quality of the pool water. Take measures if the value is too high or too low. If you have doubts about your pool water, then contact a frame pool expert in your area.

Can I put salt in the pool water instead of chlorine?

Yes, instead of chlorine, you can add salt to the pool water. All EXIT Toys frame pools and covers can withstand both chlorine and salt. When you buy a salt-water system, make sure that the connections have a diameter of 32 mm.

How can I keep the frame pool water clean?

In the blog ‘How do I keep my frame pool clean?’ you can read all about the right treatment of the frame pool. And do you want more information about testing the pool water? The blog ‘Frame pool water testing and treatment’ describes how to go about that.

Why is it so important to give the pool water the necessary treatment?

Dirty pool water can have a negative effect on your health and can also damage the pump. By checking the water regularly and by giving it the proper treatment you will prolong the lifespan of the frame pool so that you can enjoy it longer.

The tubes of my pool frame don't seem to fit. How is this possible?

The tubes of the rectangular frame pools sized 220 x 150 x 65 cm and 300 x 200 x 65 cm all seem to be equal. Still there is a small difference in length. Therefore, carefully check the length of the tubes. The longer tubes should be placed on the long side of the frame pools and the short ones fit the short side. You can also see this in the manual.

My pool water is green. What can I do about this?

Algae are often the cause of green pool water. You can take the following steps to get rid of them:

Step 1: Bring the pH-value and the chlorine value up to standard with pH-plus powder, pH-min powder and chlorine tablets. Let them circulate in the water for about 4 hours and check again using the EXIT test strips, which will allow you to easily see if the water has the right pH- and chlorine value.

Step 2: Add a flocculent to the pool water. This ensures that small dirt particles clump together and then sink to the bottom of the pool.

Step 3: Turn off the filter pump for 12 hours.

Stap 4: Suck up the dirt particle lumps with the ‘waste’-stand on your filter pump.

Lots of fun and swimming!

How can I prevent the walls and the bottom of the EXIT frame pool becoming slippery?

The walls and the bottom of the pool can become quite slippery due to the changing water quality. You can keep track of the water quality by regularly checking the PH-value and testing the chlorine (also read our blog about ‘Frame pool water testing and treatment’) and by placing a cover over the pool when it is not in use. Use a soft cloth to wipe the sides of the pool once a week for an extra clean pool.

How can I make sure that the pool water stays warm?

The ideal solution for a higher water temperature is a pool dome. This heats up the pool in a natural way thanks to the heat of the sun and keeps it warm longer. You can also cover the frame pool with a pool cover.

Can I let animals swim in an EXIT frame pool?

No, unfortunately our pools are not suitable for pets, like cats and dogs. Their sharp claws and teeth can damage the pool.

The liner of my EXIT pool is leaking, what can I do?

The EXIT frame pools have been tested many times and are strong enough to take a beating. Yet it can happen that a hole appears in the liner. For this you can use the liner repair kit supplied. This is a repair kit that consists of transparent adhesive strips and a piece of liner. Convenient: the adhesive strips from this set can also be pasted under water, so you can go swimming right away!

How does fixing small holes in the liner work?

  1. Use the transparent adhesive strips and cut it into the desired size.
  2. If the pool is empty: make sure the area around the hole is dry and clean.
  3. Seal the hole with the adhesive strips. For extra strength you can put the hole on the inside and the outside.
  4. Press the adhesive strips well, so they remain firmly in place.

For a long-term solution you can use the liner with the supplied piece of liner. This is how you do this:

  1. Make sure the pool is empty and dry.
  2. Cut the piece of liner into the desired size.
  3. Glue the piece of liner with waterproof soft PCV glue. This can be done both on the inside and outside of the pool.
  4. Let the glue cure properly, see the packaging of the glue.

Does the liner leak at a seam? If so, then please contact our customer service.

Which glue can I use to repair my frame pool?

To repair your frame pool apply soft pvc-glue when the liner is completely dry. This is available at all hardware stores. Read the instructions thoroughly before using the glue. Please note hard pvc-glue is absolutely not suitable for repairing your above ground frame pool.

How do I keep the frame pool clean?

Keeping your frame pool and its water clean depends on various factors.

All our EXIT above ground frame pools are delivered with a filter pump. A filter pump filters the dirt out of the water and that way keeps it clean. Furthermore, add a disinfectant agent, such as chlorine, to the pool water. Chlorine disinfects and keeps the water free of bacteria and mould.

To keep your frame pool clean, it is also important to maintain the good quality of the pool water. You need to have a good balance between the chlorine content, the pH value and the total alkalinity of the water. With the EXIT test strips, you can test the quality of the water and take measures as soon as these values are too high or too low.

To protect your pool against weather influences and outdoor dirt, we recommend using a pool top cover. A pool ground cover prevents damage and the formation of mould on the underside. View our selection of pool covers.

If dirt nevertheless gets into the pool, you can remove it with the EXIT pool maintenance kit. Use the scoop net to collect the dirt from the water and use the vacuum head to give the frame pool bottom an intensive cleaning round.

Are EXIT pools phthalate free?

Yes, all our PVC products are free of phthalates.

Pool filter pump
Can I buy a frame pool without a filter pump?

No, we only sell the frame pools in combination with a filter pump. This way you can be sure that you will always have a suitable filter pump for your pool.

How long should I let my filter pump run?

A filter pump works best if it is left on 24 hours a day, so the water quality remains the same.

Should I turn off my pool filter pump at night?

No, a filter pump works best if it stays on 24/7. This keeps the water moving and prevents the growth of algae and bacteria in the water.

Can the filter pump stay on when we want to take a swim in the pool?

No, when swimming we advise you to turn off the filter pump temporarily. Turn the filter pump back on as soon as you have stopped swimming.

How do I remove the inlet and outlet sieve and insert the plug when I want to change the filter of the filter pump?

When replacing the filter filling of the filter pump, it's important that no more water is running towards the pump. Therefore, remove the inlet and outlet sieve, which you can find on the outside of the pool, in their entirety. Subsequently, place the added plug in the liner. This can be difficult because the liner doesn't leave much space. You can use a bit of Vaseline or warm the liner up with your hands, so the material gets a little more flexible. In addition, you can use a bit of force and press and turn, then we're sure it'll work.

If it's possible you can also lift the filter pump above water level. Then you won't be bothered by leaking and replacing the filter filling will go much smoother.

I can't get the adapters to connect to the inlet and outlet of my pool, what can I do?

The adapter, also called "strainer", sometimes is a bit difficult to insert in the pool wall. This can certainly be the case when the pool liner is cold. Our tip is to turn and push the adapter.

How do I use my EXIT Toys pool sand filter pump?

You can read information about this and about the various functions of the sand filter pump here.

I did not receive the sealing ring of my sand filter pump, is this correct?

The sealing ring of sand filter pumps (in the manual numbered as 395072) is supplied as standard. Contrary to what the manual mentions this ring is not in the box, but already fitted in the edge of the pump.

How does the "backwash" function of my sand filter pump work?

In our blog we explain how the backflow function works.

My sand filter pump is leaking, what can I do?

When your sand filter pump is leaking, follow the steps below:

  1. Check whether the little tab of the cover fits the groove of the pump. You will find this tab on the back of the pump
  2. Check whether the red ring lies correctly in the lid. If the ring is twisted or loose, place it back in the lid in the correct position (see manual).
It might also occur that the lid was moved a bit during the assembly of the ring. If so, place the lid correctly back on the pump.
  3. Is there filter sand in the pump and are you using the backwash function to clean the sand? Then check whether the turning knob on the top of the cover (backside) is unscrewed during the backwashing. In our blog about the working action of a sand filter pump you can read how this backwash function works. If you're using filter wadding in your sand filter pump, then you cannot use this function!

Have you gone through all the steps but is the pump still leaking? Then it's best to contact our customer service.

Does filter wadding fit in my filter pump?

You can use filter wadding for all the EXIT Toys frame pool filter pumps to clean the water. The filter wadding consists of small fibres which catch even the smallest dirt particles, such as sand and algae. The wadding is also washable and can last up to three years. The EXIT filter wadding for the cartridge filter pumps comes with a layer to prevent the wadding from getting into the pump system.

For clean water we recommend washing the filter wadding every two weeks (without detergent or fabric softener), especially during the summer period. That way you’ll enjoy crystal-clear pool water all summer long.

How much filter wadding do I need in my filter pump?

The entire contents of the box go into a sand filter pump: approximately 30 pieces. For cartridge filter pumps, usually a larger quantity of filter wadding than you need in one go is supplied. Fill the cartridge filter pump to the brim and press the filter wadding lightly. This way 12-13 filter waddings fit in a 300gal/h pump, 13-21 filter waddings fit a 530gal/h pump and 33-37 filter waddings fit a 800gal/h and 1000gal/h pump. The spa pump of EXIT Toys fits about 12 filter waddings.

How does the supplied bottom for filter wadding work?

When using filter wadding in a cartridge filter pump it’s important to use the supplied bottom. This closes off the bottom of the pump. This prevents the filter wadding from entering the pump too far and causing the pump to fail. Place the supplied bottom in the filter pump before installing the filter wadding. You do not need a bottom for a sand filter pump, which already has a filter plate.

How many amps do you need to operate the filter pump?

A filter pump uses between 0.35 and 4.0 amps. The standard current for most household electrical installations is 15 amps.

Is it a problem if the filter pump gets wet by pool water or rain?

No, the EXIT filter pump is protected against light water drizzle. However, when a storm is expected we do advise you to cover up the filter pump temporarily.

I can't get my pool filter wadding to wash out completely, is this okay?

Filter wadding are easy to wash by hand or in the washing machine at 30 °C and with a washing bag (without detergent or fabric softener). Then they are ready for use again. The filter wadding will not be as white as they were before their first use.

What do the different operating modes of my sand filter pump mean?

In our blog ‘How does an EXIT sand filter pump work?’ you can read all about the different sand filter pump modes.

Do I need to use a filter pump for my EXIT frame pool?

Yes, we always advise the use of a filter pump for EXIT frame pools.

Can I buy a larger filter pump for my frame pool?

The frame pools from EXIT Toys always have a matching filter pump included. Would you still prefer a bigger filter pump, then you can of course always install one yourself. The stronger the filter pump, the cleaner your water will stay. Please do take into account that the filter pump has a 32-millimetre connector.

Pool dome on frame
Does the EXIT pool dome also fit on other frame pools?

In our blog: ‘Will an EXIT pool dome or canopy fit on my frame pool?’ you can read all about what is possible for your pool.

What do I need to bear in mind when assembling my EXIT pool dome?

In our assembly video, we provide useful tips and tricks for the assembly of an EXIT pool dome.

My pool falls apart while setting up the dome, how is this possible?

Often this is due to improper mounting of the frame tubes. Check whether the long tubes are connected to the long sides of the pool and the short tubes to the short sides; there is only a small visible difference between the large and small tubes.

Are the tubes correctly attached? Then our advice is filling the frame pool while you set up the dome. The pool frame is already stable with 10 cm of water.

Is there enough room under the EXIT pool dome?

Under our pool canopies there is plenty of room to move around. You can still throw a ball and, in many cases, you can even stand under it! Always make sure that there is enough fresh air under the canopy when swimming. < br /> < br /> Because of its shape, the canopy is tallest in the middle. Below you will find the maximum heights of the canopies for all EXIT pools, when mounted on the pool. To get a good idea of the heights, you can click on a number of dimensions for a video.

244x76cm - 180 cm 220x150x65cm - 135 cm
300x76cm -  220 cm 300x200x65cm - 149 cm
360x76cm -  250 cm 400x200x100cm - 181 cm
360x122cm - 295 cm 540x250x100cm - 220 cm
427x122cm - 320 cm 400x200x122cm - 222 cm
450x122cm - 330 cm 540x250x122cm - 240 cm
488x122cm - 350 cm

Can I swim in my pool if the EXIT dome is closed?

Make sure there is always enough fresh air under the EXIT pool dome when swimming. Do you have a 400 x 200 cm or 540 x 250 cm dome? Then you can easily remove the sides of the dome, or open the windows. The round dome is best left ajar, so only close the dome completely with the straps or rubber bands when you are not using the pool.

Can I get sunburnt under the EXIT pool dome?

The EXIT frame pool dome provides 60% protection against UV rays, so you will not get burnt very quickly when you swim. That makes swimming safer with an EXIT pool dome; but you should nevertheless use sun protection cream!

What measures should I take with the dome during strong gusts of wind or a storm?

Make sure that the dome is always affixed using the included elastic bands (whether it’s open or closed). In principle, the dome can take some wind, but if there are strong wind gusts, the dome must be protected. We advise the following:

In quiet weather (up to wind force 2) you can keep the dome either open or closed and even partially unfolded. In wind force from 2 to 6, we advise you keep the dome completely open or completely closed. In case of wind force greater than 6, we advise to have the dome completely open and to anchor it. In case of doubt, unfold the dome so that the pool is hit by as little wind as possible.

How can I clean the dome?

The best way to clean it is to carefully get rid of the dirt with some cold or lukewarm water. Avoid using detergents, hard brushes and abrasive sponges.

I can't get the screws of my 7 x 5 ft or 10 x 6.6 ft EXIT pool dome to fix.

Two sets of screws are included with this frame pool dome, one set for EXIT pools and one universal set for other pools. So make sure you’ve used the right set of screws. Do things still not work with the right screws? Then please contact our customer service.

There is a gap between the EXIT dome and my frame pool, is this correct?

Yes, this is normal. The smaller the pool, the more space there is between the cover and the pool.

Pool dome on ground
Can I also use the EXIT pool dome without anchoring it to the ground?

The EXIT pool dome must be anchored to the ground so it remains stable and cannot get blown away. For soft surfaces you can use the added ground anchors. For hard surfaces you can attach the added straps to the ground by means of screws or bolts that fit the surface. You need to take care of the fixing material yourself.

Can I place the pool dome on a hard surface?

For hard surfaces you can attach the added straps to the ground by means of screws or bolts that fit the surface. You need to take care of the fixing material yourself.

To which pools does the pool dome fit?

Check the size charts and instructions to determine whether one of the pool domes fits over your frame pool.

Can I use the pool dome as a greenhouse for my plants?

Yes, in addition to placing it over a pool, you can also perfectly use the dome for covering for example your garden, trampoline, or garden furniture.

Can I swim in my pool when the pool dome is closed?

We recommend putting the dome in half-open position when you want to use the pool. Make sure that there’s always enough fresh air coming in from underneath the EXIT pool dome while you’re swimming.

How does the pool dome heat up the water of my pool?

The EXIT pole dome uses the sun to heat up your pool and serves as a greenhouse. When the sun is out, the sun rays go through the dome, so the air and water are heated up. This way, the dome retains the heat of the sun. If you leave the dome closed as often as possible, the water will stay nice and warm and you will optimally benefit from the sun’s power.

What should I do with the pool dome in heavy winds or during a storm?

Make sure you always secure the dome, both open and closed, with the ground anchors provided (or your own fixing material in case of a hard surface). In principle, the dome can withstand wind, but it must be protected from the most violent gusts of wind. We recommend the following:

In calm weather (up to wind force 2) you can keep the dome partially open.
Up to wind force 4 you can keep the dome completely closed if you want to (thus leave it over the pool).
At wind force 5 you must open the dome completely (so do not leave it over the pool) and anchor it to the ground using the straps.
At wind force 6 or more you must disassemble the dome.

If you are unsure of the weather conditions, you should always open the dome and secure it with anchors.

How do I clean the pool dome?

It’s best to clean dirt gently with lukewarm or cold water. Cleaning agents and hard materials such as scouring sponges and brushes should preferably be avoided.

Is there enough space underneath the EXIT pool dome?

Underneath our pool domes there’s enough space to move. The dome with a size of ø15ft has a height of 7.9 feet and the dome with a size of ø18ft has a height of 9.1 feet. Because of this there’s enough space to stand underneath the dome and to enjoy tossing a ball!

Does the pool dome prevent my children from entering the pool on their own?

No, the dome may prevent the initial invitation for children to enter the pool, but it cannot prevent it completely. Adult supervision is desirable at all times.

What can I do against critters high up in my pool dome?

It’s inevitable that the occasional critters will fly under the dome. You can half-open the dome every now and then so the critters can fly out from underneath it.

Can I also place my heat pump underneath the pool dome?

No, the heat pump cannot be placed underneath the pool dome because the heat pump needs sufficient air circulation.

Does a pool dome go together with a robotic mower?

Yes, a pool dome goes together with a robotic mower but do make sure that the robotic mower cannot make contact with the pool dome. For example, place perimeter wire around the dome so the mower cannot get in and around the dome.

Can the pool dome stay out during snowfall or hail?

During snowfall or hail, the pool dome must be disassembled to avoid damage to the dome.

Pool canopy
What material are EXIT pool canopies made of?

The frame pool canopies of EXIT Toys are made of Oxford fabric. This is a strong, lightweight material with a high-quality finish. The fabric is water-repellent and hardwearing.

Can I clean my EXIT pool canopy?

Yes, you can easily clean the EXIT Toys frame pool canopies. The best way to do this is with a soft cloth and lukewarm water.

Is an EXIT pool canopy colourfast?

The material of an EXIT pool canopy is suitable for outdoor use. Discolouration from the sun will be minimal, but unavoidable.
